About Us
Welcome to the world of Capital “Ideas”––books for your work, your home, and your life.
Founded in 1998 Capital’s offices are in Northern Virginia, close to the vast
sources of information and diverse community of authors, experts, and public
interest organizations of our Nation’s Capital. We are an independent publisher
whose books offer the “inside information” readers need to succeed in their
lives. Look over our growing list of practical, innovative books in business,
education, personal finance, current issues, how-to, reference, health, and
home (including cooking, entertaining, decorating, and family). Capital aims to
make life better for you with information you can trust.
Our mission is to find authors whose knowledge and insights can improve our
readers’ work, home, and well-being. Capital authors are recognized experts in
their field––or they have the potential to become so. Often their professional
affiliations provide greater exposure and potentially larger distribution
opportunities for their books, in addition to traditional bookstores.
Capital’s authors recognize that a
well-publicized and marketed book is an essential “building block” in their
careers. They write their books to share their experience and are willing to
work with us in a collaborative partnership to ensure the information provided
to our readers is unique, comprehensive, and packaged in a visually appealing
and accessible format. Our goal is to establish each of our authors as a leader
in their field and their book as an essential contribution that no reader can
do without.
All sales and marketing are handled by Capital’s sister company, International
Publishers Marketing (IPM) and its experienced staff, Jane Graf and Jean
Westcott. Check them out at www.internationalpubmarket.com.
In addition to independent booksellers, national bookstore chains, and libraries, IPM markets our books through
the internet, to specialty catalogers, book clubs, meeting planners, military
buyers, fundraisers, home shopping networks, gift stores, and warehouse
clubs––markets where our specialty books are in demand. Titles appropriate to
the college market are presented to professors through direct mail and
conferences
We concentrate on establishing our authors as experts in their field through
speaking engagements, and interviews on national and local radio and
television. Feature stories in newspapers, reviews in influential print and
electronic media, bookstore events, and conferences are also critical
components of our marketing campaigns.
Capital authors have appeared on Good Morning America, The Today Show, Diane Rehm,
Newshour with Jim Lehrer, Fox Noon News, Christopher Lowell Show, Iyanla Show,
Bloomberg Radio, the Discovery Channel, as well as in print reviews and
features such publications as The Washington Post, New York Times,
Publishers Weekly, Library Journal, Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times,
Boston Globe, Dallas Morning News, and Christian Science Monitor.
